GOVERNOR'S LEADERSHIP FOUNDATION PROGRAM OVERVIEW
"...this program has
the strongest imaginable positive endorsement from its
participants. ...the overall impact for the vast
majority was profound, even “life-changing” on each
participant’s personal development, confidence,
interactive skills, interpersonal sensitivities,
understanding of the complexities confronting their
communities and engagement with others...The GLF program and
its associated alumni activities have achieved a
profound positive impact on the now extensive range of
aspiring leaders who have undertaken it and the
commercial, government and not-for-profit sectors in the
South Australian community from which they have come
and/or to which they returned."

Pender and Dr Sam Wells, authors of a report on a
longitudinal study of the outcomes of the GLF program
and alumni network (2000-2007) carried out by the

“The future is not a given; it is something that we all help to create. In a smaller, faster, more wired and infinitely more competitive world, the role of leadership in helping to prepare us for the future across the broad spectrum of community is increasingly challenging and demanding.
As a foundation sponsor, Holden strongly supports The Governor's Leadership Foundation given the unique learning opportunity it provides for talented South Australians. The ability to expose people to a broad range of experiences and issues outside their traditional roles, to caucus on issues from an exceedingly diverse perspective, to blend youth with experience, to build lifelong networks all focussed on an even better South Australian future is an extremely rewarding endeavour which has certainly broadened the perspective of our future leaders.”
The Governor's Leadership Foundation
Program
The GLF is unique in South Australia. Unlike other leadership programs that have a training focus, the GLF program is an experiential development program focused on
the critical economic, environmental, social
and cultural issues for the coming decades.
It also includes personalised case-study
work in small groups, personal leadership
development and one-on-one coaching
sessions. Participants are also put through
their paces through various activities
ranging from serving meals in organisations
working with the homeless to attending State
lunches with the Governor and visiting
dignitaries at Government House.
I
found the experience uplifting,
inspirational, challenging. A real
emotional roller coaster. Out the end has
come confidence, better understanding of
myself and a real sense of pride to be part
of the GLF 2007 group.
Tony Circelli, Executive Director, SA
Environment Protection Authority (FGLF07)
The program is designed to broaden, enhance and accelerate leadership capability and provide high-end development for key people in organisations throughout South Australia. It is directed at South Australians who are leaders
(or emerging leaders) in their organisations, have substantial work experience (generally a minimum of 8-10 years) and who have demonstrated the potential to become future leaders in our State.

of the participant group, emphasis is also placed on the
diversity of:

Commitment is a key factor in
the selection process. All participants are expected to
commit to program attendance, seminar preparation,
active engagement with other participants during program

also expect that each participant will continue their

“The South Australian Public Sector, the State's largest employer, plays a key role in building a better South Australia . However, within today's environment - one of rapid and pervasive change - constant reinvention is essential if we are to achieve our vision for South Australia for 2010 and beyond. For the public sector this is critical to its transformation to a responsive, values based and adaptive organisation with leadership development firmly embedded as the engine to drive this agenda.
We believe The Governor's Leadership Foundation (GLF) provides a sound vehicle in developing the three key qualities required by all leaders – courage, connections and passion.
Leadership needs to reflect real experiences. The experiential nature of the GLF program affords participants a safe environment in which to experiment, question and reflect on their own and others' practices and thinking. This encourages risk taking and builds courage and confidence.
Participants interacting with high calibre guest speakers and other young leaders results in energy and enthusiasm, and it is the passion which participants bring back to their workplaces that ultimately generates the energy which ensures real change takes place.
Of significant value is the bringing together of leaders from both the private and public sectors so that ideas are exchanged, relationships are formed and networks built. The frame of reference for leaders moves from inside to outside as connections are made, silos dismantled and boundaries become permeable. We cannot succeed in far reaching goals such as our vision for South Australia if private and public sectors do not work together. The GLF provides a prime vehicle for enhancing connected and collaborative leadership within this State.”
