About the GLF Alumni

"I now understand that as a person with certain gifts and abilities, I have a responsibility to use them for more than just work – and I will. I think that this is my most profound learning with lasting benefit to my community."
Jo Brennan, Manager, Employee & Office Services, Santos Ltd
GLF Participant 2004

The GLF program year is just the start of the journey. At the end of each year, participants are awarded a GLF Fellowship by the Governor of South Australia (provided they have attended 100% of mandatory activities and a minimum of 80% of the other activities) and they have the option of joining the GLF Network (GLFN) that is, the Alumni body of the GLF. There is a modest annual subscription fee payable for membership of the GLF Network (in 2008 this is $150 + GST).

GLF Network subscriptions are utilised in their entirety for Network purposes and are managed by the elected Network Executive (reporting to the LISA Board and comprised of GLF graduates). Financial Membership of LISA entitles you to participate in all Network activities (many of which are free of charge), to vote at the LISA AGM and to vote for members of the Network Executive, including Network representatives for the LISA Board of Directors.  Network Executive elections are held in March.  The LISA AGM is held in May.

The Network Executive revised the Network Charter in January 2007 in consultation with Fellows (you can access this as an appendix to the LISA Constitution on this site).  The primary focus of the Network is to provide all financial members/Fellows with opportunities for:

  • Professional development

  • Access to business and community initiatives

  • Social activities, ongoing engagement and connection with Fellows across all GLF years

Current initiatives supported by the Network (to which subscriptions contribute) include:

  • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SCHOLARSHIPS for Fellows ($1,500 per scholarship) - FOR MORE INFORMATION CLICK HERE

  • THE GLF NETWORK EDGE PROGRAM - Designed exclusively for GLF Fellows, the Edge is a great way to enhance your performance as a leader. For more info see sidebar link.

  • GLF THINK TANK - an innovative way for GLF Fellows to make a solid contribution to government thinking and policy making on complex and interconnected issues. Each project offers the opportunity to work on a complex issue with the added structural element of a high level government champion and agreed parameters and outcomes. It’s also the perfect opportunity to really get your teeth into it and work with some of your Fellows over an extended period of time. For more info see sidebar link.

  • An alliance with the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) that allows us to offer GLF graduates (and current participants) the opportunity to access tailored director training at heavily  discounted rates.

  • Alliance with the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA) - a not-for–profit organisation with more than 800 of Australia’s leading organisations as members. CEDA’s purpose is to promote Australia’s economic development in a sustainable and socially balanced way.  It provides access to experts and leaders, business and political networks, new knowledge and new business practices.   LISA’s membership with CEDA includes free attendance at all CEDA Workshop events for 8-10 GLF Graduates and current participants and cost price attendance at all CEDA Public Events for 8-10 Graduates and current participants. CEDA events will be advertised in the Network News.

  • Provision of a full scholarship for a participant from a community organisation to undertake the GLF program

  • Social events

  • Four Free lunch events partnered within the current GLF Program.

  • A key lunch event in Leadership Week with an internationally renowned speaker and an opportunity for Fellows  to bring guests

  • Development of a dedicated purpose-built Fellows database that will allow Fellows to formally record an individual profile and to search their Network for individuals/groups/communities of interest etc.

  • Free professional development event invitations for Fellows (some partnered with GLF participants and some allowing you to bring partners)

  • A fortnightly newsletter

In addition, the second Network Summit in 2008 will bring all the graduates back together to refocus attention on how we can tackle our most critical leadership challenges.

We continue to seek feedback from Fellows (GLF graduates) on ways to improve the Network. If you have any suggestions then please email Cindy Duncan (Chairman, Network Executive).
